About Goldendoodle’s…

Goldendoodles were first bred in North America around the mid/late 1990′s. They get their name from the mix of Golden Retrievers and Poodles. The name Goldendoodle happened after the introduction of Labradoodles were first introduced by Wally Conron. The Goldendoodle is hybrid, which is first cross between the two breeds. And due to this retains a “hybrid vigor” = ”Increased vigor or other superior qualities arising from the crossbreeding of genetically different plants or animals”

Hybrid vigor and Goldendoodles, This cross of Golden Retrievers & Poodles (first cross or F1) produces such wonderful family dogs that are affectionate, friendly, loyal easily trained family pets that are also being used as exceptional service and therapy dogs.

Goldendoodles come from two highly intelligent breeds both of which are water dogs and hunters. The Poodle is the original water retriever. The Golden Retriever is a soft mouth water retriever. Goldendoodles normally are shaggy dogs, sometimes they can be curly, normally are low to no shed and typically allergy friendly. The length of the coat can be about 4-8 inches. Colors of  the Goldendoodle are all shades of tan, black, Silver, phantoms. Rarer colors such as parti and chocolates will not show up in first cross Goldendoodles since the Golden Retriever only carry the golden, tan, cream or black genes.

Goldendoodle Sizes:

Sizes are of course dependant on the parents. However, lets consider some things here. Please bear in mind that the Goldendoodle come in one size only, large.  Note: even if artificially inseminated there are differences within the same litter, also this practice can cause longer backs and shorter legs amongst other problems, which brings on even more growth issues. Average height on a Goldendoodle is 20-24″ and 45 lbs 80 lbs avg. No guarantee’s. Click Here for more info on sizes

Goldendoodle Temperament:

Goldendoodles are very devoted to their family, they are very smart obedient and easily trained. They love everyone. The Goldendoodle is not bred to be protection dogs, however I have had numerous reports that they will go to any lengths to protect their direct family when needed. In most cases they will welcome anyone and show them to the silver ware :O). In order to have a well trained beloved family pet, being a intelligent breed it is important that they are trained by you the owner. They can get into mischief and develop behavioral issues if you don’t give them attention, training and guidance as they mature.

Goldendoodle Environment:
The Goldendoodle require moderate exercise. They adapt well to most environments so they can live in town or in the country. They are just happy to be with their families, and will break their little hearts to please you.

Goldendoodle Grooming:
The Goldendoodle coat is normally low maintenance, but it does require regular brushing to keep it free from matting. I suggest getting in the habit of brushing your doodle every day or every other day while watching T.V. This gives you quality quiet time with your dog and keeps the health of the coat. Especially if you choose to keep it long. I do recommend a “Teddy Bear Cut” for the Goldendoodle, about 1″ all over scissoring even , rounding face with scissors and leaving tail long scissoring it as well. Professional grooming should be done every 6-8weeks.

Health Concerns:
Due to the hybrid vigor they mature healthier and do live longer normally then the parent breeds, however with that being said, Goldendoodles are large dogs. And with that it is important that you limit exercise, jumping, climbing etc for the first 2 yrs of your dog’s life, this is when they are totally grown. It is important that they have best nutrition food and supplements you can provide. Life expectancy about 15 yrs.

Goldendoodle Reservations are HIGHLY recommended !!!!

    • nancy says:

Mini Goldendoodle ??? you need to read this http://doodlesville.com/2010/10/doodle-sizes/
The smallest we claim to raise is Aussiedoodles , their size is much more predicatble in size and coat
No breeder can guarantee size in a goldendoodle or a Labradoodle. Goldens do not come in mini sizes only large, read that article
Im sure you will find it valuable to help you in your search.
      Blessings

    Hello,

I am interested in a goldendoodle male pup. I have 3 children (14, 10 and 8) and I am a teacher. I was wondering how this breed would do with a working family as I know that they are WONDERFUL with children. I would love to hear your professional opinion.

    • nancy says:

Goldendoodles are awesome, of course as with any puppy you bring into your home would mean someone come home mid day to interact with the puppy and clean up after, make sure it has fresh water and food, in order to have a well adjusted dog you need to interact with them quite a bit as they mature. just like children.

they are Being used for service and therapy dogs , they do wonderfully in Families and learn very quickly.
hope you will complete a application so we can work together to get you your perfect Doodlesville doodle puppy

We bought a Goldendoodle from Nancy in 2003. I had never purchased anything over the Internet before so I was nervous. I also have always selected my pups, so never had anyone pick a pup for me! Well, Dude is absolutely the Best dog we have ever had! He is 8 yrs.old, weighs 100 pounds, and is the biggest teddy bear ever (with the most ferocious bark!). He loves people and other animals, has never shown aggression to anyone, and was the easiest dog to train. We don’t look forward to the day Dude passes away but when he does, we know for sure we’ll be calling on Nancy for another doodle! (I think that is still Dude’s picture on Nancy’s home page, with the planter in his mouth–totally a photo-op made up by me! He never chewed on it!) Keep up the great work, Nancy!
